About the Trail
Rooted in the rich railroad history of western Montana, the Trail Rail Run follows historic rail beds once used by the Northern Pacific and Milwaukee Railroads. These converted railroad grades feature a wide, mostly dirt and gravel surface with a gentle incline—never more than a 2% grade.
This forgiving terrain offers a unique and scenic alternative to traditional road races. It’s easier on the body than pavement and far less technical than steep singletrack trails, making it a great choice for runners of all experience levels.
